Trip Introduction

Langtang Helambu trek combines the remote and spectacular valley of Langtang, with the high mountain lakes at Gosainkunda along with the Helambu trek to witness the Hyolmo culture of the Sherpas living in this region. This region offers multiple adventure opportunities to those who are interested in trek and climb. Langtang lies towards the northern part of Kathmandu valley and it borders Tibet. 7-8 hours of a scenic drive towards the north from Kathmandu will take us to the gateway of Syabrubesi, a gateway to Langtang. The native of this region are Tamangs and is home to Peaks like Ganesh Himal, Mt. Annapurna, and Langtang Lirung etc. This trek also provides the access to peaceful landscapes and alpine forests, and above all the holy lake Gosainkunda. The culture of the Tamangs, their lifestyle, and celebrations add colors to this land gifted by nature. Gosainkunda Lake located at an altitude of 2,290m attracts plenty of pilgrims round the year. They visit the place with the intent of taking the holy dip in the sacred water of the Lake. This region is also popular for the local Yak cheese. Besides, this region is home to some of the very important faunal species like languor, red panda, and musk deer. This trek incorporates Helambu which is a very beautiful trekking destination nearby Kathmandu.You will get an opportunity to explore the unexploited Helambu and the people residing there. Day to Day Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264 ft)

Our airport representative will welcome you at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu upon your arrival. He/she will escort you to the respective hotel in a private vehicle. Your prior trip meeting will be scheduled on the very day at the hotel before dinner. However, our airport representative will give you a brief idea about the second day’s schedule on your way to the hotel. During this meeting, we will introduce you to your leader/guide. Please do not hesitate to ask questions about your trek or anything that is related to your trip. To make you feel comfortable, we host a welcome dinner for you in a popular restaurant in the city where you can enjoy authentic Nepali meal along with cultural programs including ethnic dance and songs. Tonight will be spent at a hotel in Kathmandu. 

Day 02: Kathmandu valley sightseeing & trek preparation (1,300m/4,264 ft)

After the breakfast, you will be visiting the different places in Kathmandu. There are many historic and cultural places that are of great significance in Kathmandu. You will get to see the major attractions of the city along with our professional guide and a private vehicle. The following are the major places that you will visit:

You will be visiting either Kathmandu Durbar Square or Patan Durbar Square, which has been listed in the UNESCO’s World Heritage Site. You can enjoy the age-old cultural heritage of the city. Boudhanath and Swayambhunath a sacred pilgrimage of the Buddhist and Pashupatinath the very famous Hindu temple e are the attraction of today’s sightseeing program. After sightseeing, you will be meeting us at our office for a prior trek meeting. You can go shopping in the evening at Thamel which is famous for useful tourist’s products. We will stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 03: Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1,420m/4,658ft)
Total duration: 7-8 hours

Today we will be traveling towards Syabrubesi via a local bus. Our guide will pick you up from the hotel and will escort you to the bus stop to catch the early morning bus to Syabrubesi. Your journey is going to be a very pleasant one as the mountain road takes you through the beautiful forested areas and local settlements. The roads are bumpy in many places, yet the drive is going to be very exciting. After almost 8 hours of a scenic drive, we will reach Syabrubesi and stay overnight at a lodge there.

Day 04: Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (2340m/7,675ft)

Our destination for today is set for Lama Hotel, so shortly after breakfast, we will head towards Lama Hotel along the trail of Langtang Khola. We will ascend and descend numerous times through the oak and rhododendron forest to reach a bridge over Langtang Khola. After crossing the bridge followed by a steep ascend will take us to Lama Hotel. We will stay overnight at Lama Hotel.

Day 05: Lama Hotel to Langtang village (3,480m/11,415ft)
Total duration: 5-6 hours

The destination for today is set for Langtang Village. Our journey for today will begin right after the breakfast. Today we will walk past numerous beautiful waterfalls. On our way, we will witness the view of the magnificent mountain landscape. Upon reaching a place called Ghoda Tabela we will start to see Langtang Range from a close vicinity. The tail will continue to ascend passing by few herders’ settlements and a Buddhist Monastery before we reach Langtang Village. This village was highly affected by the earthquake in April 2015, however, it is being renovated. We will stay overnight at Langtang village.

Day 06: Langtang Village to Kyangjin Gompa (3,870m/12,697ft)
Total duration: 3-4 hours

Today we will be trekking towards Kyangjin Gompa. This is the major monastery of this region. We will walk on the trail passing through beautiful chortens, prayer flags, prayer wheels and many sacred rocks with inscriptions carved on them. We will also get a chance to pass by the Mani wall, which is probably is the largest one found in Nepal made up of stone with prayers inscribed in them. We will reach Kyangjin after few hours of walk. We can spend the rest of the day exploring the area. This place offers a magnificent view of the mountains as well as beautiful lowland. We will stay overnight here.

Day 07: Rest day at Kyangjin Gompa
Total duration: 4-5 hours

We won’t be trekking to higher attitude today instead, we will take rest and explore Tserko. It is important to acclimatize before heading the higher altitude. Our hike will begin early in the morning. We will pass through yak pasture and then start to climb towards Tserko RI to catch the sunrise view After spending some time there we will return to Kyangjin Gompa. Rest of the afternoon can be spent exploring the beautiful monastery. We can enjoy the amazing view of the mountains. This place is also popular for faunal and avifaunal diversity. We can see a variety of birds and different Himalayan wild lives including musk deer, yak etc. We will stay overnight at Kyangjin.

Day 08: Kyangjin Gompa to Lama Hotel (2340m/7,675ft)
Total duration: 6-7 hours
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

After breakfast, we will retrace the trail back to Lama Hotel. We will walk downhill enjoying the forested trail, many small Tamang settlements and the beautiful view of mountains. After 5 to 6 hours of walk, we will reach Lama Hotel where we will be staying overnight.

Day 09: Lama Hotel to Thulo Syaphru Village (1,900m/6,232ft)
Total duration: 5-6 hours
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

Today we will be trekking to Thulo Syaphru. We will walk on the trail that passes through bamboo and rhododendron forest. This could be an opportunities to spot wild fauna of this region. We will also get a chance to view the magnificent Ganesh Himal from close. The trail for today includes numerous easy uphill and downhill walk. We will reach to Thulo Syaphru after walking through the steep trail for last few hours and stay overnight atThulo Syaphru.

Day 10: Thulo Syaphru to Sing Gompa (3330m/10,922ft)
Total duration: 4-5 hours
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

Our walk for today begins after breakfast at Thulo Syaphru. We will walk through dense pine and rhododendron forest until we reach Sing Gompa. From here we will take steep trail to reach an open area that offers a mesmerizing view of the low land terrains as well as the mountain range. After 4- 5 hours of walk we will reach the hotel for overnight stay.

Day 11: Sing Gompa to Gosainkunda Lake (4380m/14,366ft)
Total duration: 4-5 hours

Today we follow a wonderful trail to reach holy Gosainkunda Lake passing through Cholagpati and Lauribinayak. This area is the homeland of the Tamangs and Bhotias and even a short time spent here provides an insight into their rural mountain lifestyles and the cultural contrasts between Hindu and Buddhist villages. The evening can be spent exploring the lake and the surrounding areas. We will stay overnight at a lodge.

Day 12: Cross the Lauribinayak Pass (4610m) and Trek to Ghopte (3430m)
Total duration: 6 hours

Our destination for today is set for Ghopte via Lauribinayak Pass. We will walk passing 4 small lakes to reach Lauribinayak, which is the highest point of this trek. We can relish the amazing view of Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, and Langtang Lirung if we turn back. After walking for some time the trails will descend steeply until we reach Ghopte. We will stay overnight at Ghopte.

Day 13: Trek to Melamchi Gaon via Thadepati Pass (3490 m)
Total duration: 6 hours
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

We will first descend and then ascend passing through the rhododendron forest and few settlements with small mud huts until we reach Thadepati. From here we will descend through pine and rhododendron forest and offers an amazing view of Helambu valley, Jugal Himal, and Solukhumbu. This place is surrounded by pleasing forest. We will see few monasteries that are of great significance. Sherpa is the major residents of this region. They share their peculiar culture and tradition. We will stay overnight at Melamchi Gaon.

Day 14: Trek to Tharkeghyang (2560m/8397ft): 6 hours
Total duration: 6 hours

Today we will walk towards Tharkeghyang. The trails will first drop until we cross Melamchi river then we will gradually ascend passing the Sherpa settlements. En route we can witness the visually appealing Himalayas. We can also witness the beautiful monasteries in this region. Finally, we will reach Tharkeghyang AKA Helambu. This is a beautiful Sherpa Village popular for the natural beauty that it offers. This place is also famous for apples. We can explore the place in the evening. We will stay overnight at Tharkeghyang.

Day 15: Trek to Sermathang (2610m/8563ft)
Total duration: 6 hours
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

Our destination for today is set for Sermathang. We won’t be climbing to another altitude today, so it is going to be an easy walk compared to other days. Today we will walk passing the forest, streams and breathtaking waterfalls. The trail makes a sweep around the wide valley end between Parchin and the Sherpa village called Gangyul. After walking for some time from Gangyul we will reach Sermathang. Rest of the time can be spent exploring the village. This is a beautiful Sherpa village with many monasteries. It also offers an alluring view of the Himalayas as well as the lowlands. We will stay overnight at Sermathang.

Day 16: Trek to Melamchi Bazar
Total duration: 3-4 hours walk
Meals included: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner

Today is the last day of our trek. It is going to be a pleasant walk enjoying the view of mountains and terrains. We will be walking to Melamchi Bazaar. Melamchi bazaar is inhabited mostly by the Sherpas but we can also see people of different ethnic communities. We will stay overnight at Melamchi bazaar tonight.

Day 17: Drive to Kathmandu
Total duration: 2 hours
Meals included: Dinner

Today we will be taking a local couch from Melamchi bazaar to Kathmandu. It takes almost 3 hours to reach Kathmandu. Upon reaching Kathmandu, you will be escorted to the hotel. You can freshen up and go shopping in the evening at Thamel which is famous for useful tourist’s products. Since today is your last day in Kathmandu, we host a farewell dinner where you can give your feedback regarding the services that we provide during the entire trip.We will stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 18: Farewell day
Meals included: Breakfast

This is the last day of your trip with us. You can extend your trip for one or two days to visit other interesting places in and out of Kathmandu which is completely optional. If not then one of our staff will escort you to the airport as per your scheduled departure. You can roam around the city and buy souvenirs’ and do shopping to take along with you if your flight is scheduled during late hours.
