Everest region is one of the famous regions for the Himalayan tourism of the country. Everest region lies under Sagarmatha National Park. The region covers an exceptional area with dramatic mountains, glaciers, deep valleys and is dominated by Mount Everest (8848 m), the highest peak in the world. Several rare species such as snow leopard and panda are found in the park. The Sherpa’s, one of the ethnic community of Nepal living in the Himalayan region are worldwide famous for their unique culture and their traditions. The Everest region has an almost mystical status in the world of trekking. Everest region can be reached either by road via Jiri almost 8 hours’ drive under normal road condition. The traditional walking trail to Everest Base Camp begins in Jiri and climbs steady through the high valleys of Solu and Khumbu. The region can also be reached via Lukla which takes around 35 minutes flying time to reach the Tenzing Hillary airport from Kathmandu. In Kathmandu to Lukla flight, 18 of the highest peaks are visible in the clear weather in which 4 of them are above 8000m.
Trekking in the Everest region is undeniably challenging because of the seep trials and the high altitude climatic conditions. The valleys in the Everest regions such as Gokyo, Khumbu and Imja highly displays the rich monasteries culture and traditions followed by highland dwellers. The places like Thame, Khumjung, Junbesi, Namche, Tyangboche and Pangboche are the monasteries zone and hub of Sherpa culture. The major festivals celebrated by the Sherpa are Dumje, Mani Rimdhu and Lhosar. The attractive views of snowcapped mountains over 6000 meters includes Kongde, Kusum kangru, Thamaserku, Amadablam, Baruntse, Makalu, Everest, Lotse, Choletse, Lhotsesar, Nuptse, Choyu, and Pumori making the landscape wonderful and is made more exciting by the passes over 5000 m: Kongma-la, Cho-la, Renjo-la, Tashi lapcha, Amphu lapcha and Serpinicool.
